Green Key Certification

Novotel Nara is pleased to announce that it has obtained the international environmental certification,
Green Key, in March 2026.

Green Key is a globally recognized eco-label awarded to hospitality establishments committed to environmental responsibility and sustainable operations.

Operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), headquartered in Denmark, Green Key is an international certification awarded to properties that voluntarily apply and successfully undergo a rigorous third-party audit. With more than 8,500 certified hotels and related establishments across over 90 countries, Green Key is widely regarded as a global benchmark for environmental responsibility and sustainable practices within the tourism and hospitality industry.

The certification process comprehensively evaluates a property’s environmental management, energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, and other sustainability initiatives.

Through obtaining this certification, Novotel Nara is committed to reducing its environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable society, while ensuring a safe, comfortable, and responsible stay for all guests.

Example of Our Initiatives (Saho River Clean-Up Activities)

As part of our environmental initiatives, Novotel Nara participates in the “OCEAN PROGRAM,” a marine conservation initiative jointly promoted by the NOVOTEL brand and the global environmental organization
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

As part of this program, we conduct monthly clean-up activities along the Saho River near the hotel. Our team carefully collects litter and debris along the riverbanks, contributing to the preservation of local water quality and the protection of ecosystems.

Through these ongoing efforts, we recognize the importance of environmental conservation in collaboration with the local community and continue to promote sustainable tourism practices. We also share these initiatives with our guests and encourage them to join us in supporting environmental protection.
